2017 McConnell Irish Dance Performances

All General Division dancers are invited to participate in our yearly performances, including 1^st year dancers. 

Dancers should confirm their participation by filling out the signup sheet at the studio (bulletin board in waiting room)

Friday, March 17^th  St. Patrick’s Fest’ 2017

Location - CCFM 340 Provencher Blvd

Doors Open at 5:30 PM, Food & Drink available for purchase, Silent Auction, Prizes

Tickets available for sale in February

Thursday, May 25^th, 2017 Annual Recital

Location – Prairie Theatre Exchange, 3^rd Floor Portage Place Mall

Arrive 5:30 PM   Show 7:00 PM

Tickets available for sale in April

August 6^th – 12^th – United Kingdom Pavilion Folklorama

Location – 1440 King Edward Street

3 – 5 shows per day, dancers participating are expected to attend all 7 nights

Performance Confirmation Dates

St. Patrick’s Fest’ – Sign up by February 4^th, 2017

Annual Recital – Sign up by March 25^th, 2017

Folklorama – Sign up by March 25^th, 2017 *Folklorama Practices are held on Tuesday evenings in June & July

Costumes

Students wishing to perform are required to purchase a school costume for their current division and level. 

General School costumes range in price from $125 - $350, depending on the dancers level and age.

·         Additional items such as poodle socks and Irish dance shoes are required

·         Irish dance wigs are optional.

General Division

Beginner – Black Nylon bodysuit, Green Skirt, Hair Bow

Novice & Preliminary –  Black Velvet Bodysuit, Green Skirt, Hair Bow, Cummerbund

Intermediate – Black Irish Dance Dress *cummerbund & cuffs required for Folklorama only

Adult – Black Irish Dance Dress or Black Skirt and T-Shirt

Costume Orders

Costume sizing will take place the next two weeks at class.  Instructors will measure students who require a new costume or costume pieces. 

We encourage all dancers to try on their current costumes to make certain they still fit before orders are placed!

Irish Dance Wigs

Please allow 4 – 6 weeks for delivery

Irish dance wigs are optional for all General Division dancers.  Many of our dancers prefer to wear Irish dance wigs for the convenience and to keep with the current styles

Wigs are available in many different styles and shades.  We recommend dancers choose a shade as close to their own as possible.

Wig Options - Pony Tail, Bun Wig, 3/4 Cap, and Full Wigs

Dancers in our General & Competitive Divisions may choose any style of wig which suits them best or they are fine to wear their natural hair secured or tied back away from their face for performance

Competitive Classes - Cancelled Sat Jan 28th & Sat Feb 18th

Dear Competitive Division Dancers & Parents,

Competitive classes will be cancelled on Sat January 28^th & Sat February 18^th due to our instructors attending performances and competitions out of town.  Dancers are welcome to attend the Monday competitive classes the week after the missed classes to make up for the time.   Please note, Monday competitive classes run 5:30 – 8:00 PM for all levels.  If you have any questions please let us know!

Winnipeg Classes - Cancelled Sat Jan 28th, 2017

Dear Dancers & Parents,

All Winnipeg classes will be cancelled on Saturday, January 28^th, 2017 due to our instructors attending a performance out of town.  To make up for the time missed, Novice & Preliminary classes will add 30 minutes to the February 4^th, 11^th and 18^th classes (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

MSDSA - FUNDRIVE Fundraiser

To All McConnell School of Dance Parents-General, Performance, and Competition,

The MSDSA board has decided to organize a FUNDrive, launching on November 26! We will have details at the Costume Swap!

This is not your average fundraiser! This is a no-cost-to-you fundraiser and a good way to clean out those closets and storage areas to make room for New toys and Christmas gifts!!

We have teamed up with Value Village and we will be collecting garbage bags full of your items and weigh in on December 19! Please check out the  poster in the studio!

They will pay us for each pound of donations! And we are helping other community organizations because Value Village gives portions of the sales of donated items to Diabetes and other local groups!

On average a full garbage bag is approx. 14 lbs of clothing or household items!

Our first goal is $500 which is approximately 250 bags.

Christmas is a giving time, it’s a great time to get donations from people! Ask your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family! The more bags we bring in the more we earn!

Here is a list of acceptable items to put in the bags:  (PLEASE no large items over 18 inches on one side! They will take as donation but won’t pay for the large items like furniture.)

Competitive Classes - Sat Dec 3rd Change of Schedule

Dear Competitive Dancers and Parents,

There will be a change in schedule for classes on Saturday December 3rd due to many of our dancers & instructors attending the Rince Ri Feis.

Ardghrad 9:30 - 11:00 - No Class

Meangrhad 11:00 - 12:30 - No Class

There will be no team practice this week.

Bunghrad: 12:00 - 1:00 

Ullmhuchan: 1:00 - 2:00
